A First Blog Post: Sharing Creativity

June 13, 2024 | Categories: thoughts

I've had the idea to start a blog for years, but never acted on it. Lots of my time is spent creating and making for myself, but I've never quite been able to figure out how to share what I do with other people. For me, the joy in creating comes from the process. It's chaotic, messy & exciting. When you start with an idea, you never quite know where you'll end up. However, this makes distilling the process down into something clear and pretty to post online a challenge. Making something and sharing what you make are two entirely different skills. For now, my purpose in publishing Slow Grow Craft is to share my creative endeavors and learn to be more comfortable putting myself out there.

And on a more personal note, I have fear around being perceived by other people, especially people that I don't know. My creative process feels central to who I am in a way that I've hesitated to publish out onto the internet. However, I've realized that sharing my authentic self is important to fostering community and mental well-being. I am here, carving out a space to be seen by other people. If you've decided to stop by and join me for a bit, I'm so happy to have you.

So what do I plan to share on here anyway? Although I make all sorts of different objects, my main focus is on wearable and usable art. I love the idea that something simultaneously serves a function, is beautiful and was made with positive intention. Slowly, I've been converting my wardrobe into "me-made" or "me-modified" garments. I'm in no rush, but the idea of dressing every day in entirely handmade and second-hand clothes makes me feel delightful. I also want to use this space to share different thoughts on life and the creative process. By writing out and sharing my personal philosophies, I hope to build deeper connections with other crafters and myself.

Although only a start, publishing this website feels like a milestone. I have many ideas for the future of this project. Check back in the future, and thanks again for being here.
